International Pen-Pal Program

Crossing Borders is an international pen-pal program that currently connects Syosset School District students with Syrian refugee girls living in the Za’atari camp in Jordan, with plans under way to extend chapters across the US.

In conjunction with our program partner, Another Kind of Girl Collective (AKGC), a nonprofit that provides photography and filmmaking workshops to these marginalized, yet ambitious, intelligent, creative, and courageous girls, Crossing Borders has been able to collect, review, and translate over 30 pen-pal letters and transmitted them in September to AKGC.

Since founding Crossing Borders, Girl Pride has also held pen-pal letter writing workshops, presenting the work of both AKGC and these young Syrian female artists to high school students. As a lifeline to young refugee girls, Crossing Borders hopes to expand it's chapters to other schools and regions throughout the US.
